KUCHING: A prisoner had his jail term extended after the Sessions Court sentenced him to five years’ imprisonment and one stroke of the cane for possessing a kerambit (small curved hand knife) without lawful purpose.
Wan Abdul Rahman, 30, pleaded guilty before Judge Jason Juga to the charge framed under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive Substances, Explosives and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958.
The offence was committed inside a car parked by the roadside near Kampung Bedup junction along Jalan Sri Aman-Serian at around 2.30 pm on September 3, 2025.
Based on the case facts, a police team stopped a Perodua Viva vehicle and detained Wan Abdul.
A search later uncovered a kerambit tucked into the sun visor on the car’s roof.
Investigations found that the man had carried the dangerous weapon in a public place without reasonable justification.
The court was told that Wan Abdul is currently serving a 13-month prison sentence for a criminal intimidation offence under Section 506 of the Penal Code.
He also has a prior drug-related offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The prosecution was conducted by Mohamad Aiman Mutallib Mohamad Shariff, while Wan Abdul was unrepresented.
