MIRI: The long-standing flash flood problem along Jalan Piasau Utara 1B here is expected to ease with the on-going upgrading of a drainage system spanning more than 200 metres.

Pujut Assemblyman and Miri City Mayor, Adam Yii Siew Sang, inspected the project site recently and met with residents to hear their views and concerns.

He said complaints regarding overflowing drains during heavy rain had been promptly referred to the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), allowing the project to begin without delay.

“People’s issues will always remain my priority. I appreciate the swift cooperation from DID which enabled this project to be carried out quickly.

“I will continue to monitor the works to ensure they are completed on schedule and meet the quality standards expected, so residents can truly benefit,” he said during the visit.

Residents expressed relief as the area has often been inundated during downpours, raising fears of damage to their homes.

They are optimistic that conditions will improve once the project is completed.

The drainage upgrade is expected to mitigate flash floods while creating a safer and more comfortable environment for the community.
