BINTULU: Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) vice president, is going for the deputy presidency at the party’s Triennial General Assembly (TGA) tomorrow (June 10).

Jinep, who announced his candidacy during a fellowship dinner at NU Hotel here last night, said nominations for party central posts are set for tomorrow.

“There may not be a contest, but we are still uncertain until the very last minute. If there is one, I will contest and if not, we will assemble harmoniously,” he said.

With 37 years of involvement in politics spanning from Sarawak National Party (SNAP) to Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) and now PDP, Jinep said he is dedicated to the party’s cause and his comrades.

“We are together because we have a shared political ideology and a common goal to advance and contribute to the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government of which PDP is a part of.

“Despite being small, PDP wants to stand on equal footing with other component parties and this reflects our determination and resilience,” he said.

Touching on the fellowship dinner, Jinep as the chairman of PDP Tasik Biru division, said he is committed to meeting representatives from all divisions, including the youth and women sections.

The gathering was attended by party members from Tasik Biru, Kota Sentosa, Tanjung Batu, Jepak, Kemena,  Samalaju, and Bekenu divisions.

“I think there is nothing wrong for me to campaign and meet with the party members because if not, I will be criticised for not connecting with members while vying for the top post,” he said.

On the PDP TGA, Jinep said it is an important platform for top leaders and grassroots members to discuss and address any issues.

He said 44 divisions are participating in this year’s TGA while some divisions are temporarily suspended due to technical issues.

“This is a normal occurrence in a democratic process and is aimed at ensuring the stability and strength of the party. All issues in the party must be reported as the strength of the party is crucial for the GPS government,” he said.
