SARIKEI: A total of 743 students took part in SMK St Anthony Sarikei’s annual jogathon and 1M1S Run at the DSH Open Stadium, an event that also brought together parents, teachers, and community members in a lively show of support.

Organised by the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), the programme held recently has showcased school spirit while strengthening ties within the community.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, who is also Sarikei MP and Repok Assemblyman, officiated the event and joined in cheering for the runners.

He commended the organisers for making the programme both meaningful and impactful, stressing that physical fitness is the foundation of success in both education and life.

“Events like this not only raise funds for schools but also build closer ties between students, parents, and the wider community,” he said.

Huang also praised the enthusiasm of the participants and reminded students that physical fitness plays an important role in academic and personal success.

He further highlighted the Sarawak Government’s strong commitment to education, citing the Premier’s historic announcement of free education for all students beginning in 2026.

On top of that, he revealed that SMK St Anthony has received RM1.22 million in Rural Transformation Project (RTP) allocations from 2020 to 2025 for upgrading its facilities.

To further support the school, he pledged an additional RM30,000 allocation to ensure annual programmes like the jogathon continue to inspire healthy living, school spirit, and unity in the years to come.
