BAU: Fifty-one banners advertising suspected unlicensed money lending services were removed in a joint operation aimed at curbing the spread of illegal lending activities today (July 14).

Dubbed ‘Ops Vulture’, the operation was carried out by Bau Commercial Crime Investigation Division (CCID) in collaboration with the Bau District Council.

Enforcement teams targeted several locations, including Taman Siniawan Villa, Siniawan town, Taman Siniawan and Jalan Kuching-Bau, where the banners had been prominently displayed.

By the end of the operation, officers had taken down 51 banners affixed to electricity poles, residential lane signboards and trees.

Police said the operation forms part of their continuous efforts to disrupt the visibility and activities of illegal money lenders while keeping public spaces free of unauthorised advertisements.

Members of the public have been urged to steer clear of unlicensed money lenders, warning that borrowers could be exposed to intimidation, harassment and scams.

Instead, police advised those in need of financial assistance to seek services only from financial institutions or money lenders that are legally registered and authorised to operate.
