KOTA SAMARAHAN: The overwhelming response to the three-day ‘Jom Heboh Segulai Sejalai Sarawak’ programme has demonstrated Kota Samarahan’s potential to host more large-scale events.

Rural and Regional Development Deputy Minister, Datuk Rubiah Wang, said the turnout demonstrated strong demand for national-level entertainment and family-oriented events in suburban areas.

“We did not expect ‘Jom Heboh’, held in a suburban area like Kota Samarahan, to receive such an overwhelming response.

“It shows that programmes of this scale are not only suited to cities but are equally appealing to communities in suburban and rural areas,” she was quoted as saying in a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS).

She said this after the closing concert of the ‘Jom Heboh Segulai Sejalai Sarawak’ programme here on Sunday (Aug. 2).

Rubiah, who is the local Member of Parliament, said the event attracted visitors not only from Kota Samarahan but also from Kuching, Serian and surrounding areas.

She added that the success of the programme had strengthened plans to upgrade public amenities at potential event venues, including public toilets, lighting and other supporting facilities to enhance visitors’ comfort.

Rubiah also said the upcoming Samarahan Boulevard was expected to become a catalyst for hosting more large-scale events once completed.

She said the facility was being developed to accommodate divisional, state and national-level programmes, with the potential to host international events.

“With the completion of Samarahan Boulevard, I am confident Kota Samarahan will be able to host more large-scale events and stand alongside other major venues in Sarawak,” she added.
