MIRI: Two high-end vehicles, a Toyota Land Cruiser and a Toyota Vellfire, were seized during major enforcement operations by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) here.
The seizures were made during ‘Ops Luxury’, conducted by the Miri JPJ Operations Unit through mobile patrols around the city and a static roadblock along the Permyjaya Bypass.
JPJ officers inspected 450 commercial and private vehicles over the course of the operations.
A range of offences was detected, including driving without a valid licence, failure to wear seat belts, non-compliant registration plates, and multiple technical infringements involving vehicle roadworthiness.
The two luxury vehicles were confiscated after checks revealed that both were being driven with expired road tax and without valid insurance coverage.
Miri JPJ said the action sent a clear and unambiguous message that enforcement would be carried out without fear or favour.
“No exemptions will be given to any road user who flouts the law, irrespective of brand, model or market value of the vehicle,” it said.
“Enforcement operations will be intensified from time to time to ensure road safety remains a top priority in Miri.”
Motorists were reminded to ensure all vehicle documents are valid and complete before taking to the road, warning that failure to do so could result in stern action, including seizure of vehicles.
