KUCHING: The Kampung Boyan-Gersik jetty is now ready for use after its RM918,000 upgrading project was fully completed in August 2026.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Hall and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the jetty serves as a link to the Kuching Waterfront.
“For residents of Kampung Seberang Hilir, this jetty is used as a daily route for students travelling to school and for carrying out daily activities.
“From the tourism perspective, this route is important to ensure visitors can access the area safely. It also connects tourists to various attractions, including the English Tea House, Darul Hana Fountain, Dataran Ibu Pertiwi and other locations.”
He said this during a press conference after officiating the handover of the Boyan-Gersik jetty project here on Tuesday (Aug 4).
The upgrading project began in December 2025, with the contract awarded to Sultanate Builders Company.
Abdul Rahman said the previous jetty structure had deteriorated and required upgrading to ensure it was safe for public use while continuing to serve as an important river crossing route.
“The new structure built by Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) is more suitable and safer for use along the riverbank.”
Meanwhile, Kuching North City Mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman urged the public to take good care of the facilities provided for the benefit of the community.
“Upgrading and repair works will continue at other locations to ensure public facilities around the Kuching Waterfront are well maintained.
“With good cooperation from users and city residents, our public facilities can be better preserved and safeguarded.”
