PADAWAN: An in-depth study should be done on local kampung durian varieties that have potential to match the popular Musang King, Duri Hitam and D24 varieties.

In making the call to the Department of Agriculture Deputy Minister of Transport (Land and Air), Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, said durians from Kampung Sadir, Kampung Semuti, Kampung Sibakar, and Kampung Sibuang not only stand out in terms of size but also taste.

“I bet it tastes better than the Musang King,” he said, adding the the department should therefore conduct research or produce clones.

He suggested that local kampung durian be widely promoted and commercialised, given its potential in the industry.

Dr Jerip said this at the 2025 Jak Man Jejak Festival (Let’s Eat Durian Festival) held at the Multipurpose Hall in Kampung Sadir, yesterday (Jan 12).

He also praised efforts to promote local fruits through the festival, which is now in its second edition.

“The Biannah area is famous for various types of local fruits such as cempedak, mango, and ciku. This is an opportunity to highlight the richness of local produce to fruit lovers,” he added.

To support the organisation of the third edition of the festival next year, Dr Jerip donated RM30,000 to the Village Safety Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Annah Sadir.

People are busy choosing Durians.
