SIMUNJAN: The successful first harvest of hydroponic vegetables under the Sejahtera Komuniti Madani (SejaTi Madani) Programme in Kampung Nanas Hilir has demonstrated the potential of modern farming as a driver of rural economic growth.
Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris said the harvest proved that the local community was capable of implementing technology-based agriculture projects when carried out in a systematic manner with strong cooperation from all parties.
“This programme shows that grassroots communities can generate income through collective effort. The hydroponic method not only saves space and is easy to manage, but also produces fresh, high-quality vegetables.
“I see great potential for the project to be expanded in the future,” he told Ukas during a visit to the hydroponic farm at Kampung Nanas Hilir on Tuesday (Sept 23).
Awla added that the vegetables were not only used for daily consumption by villagers but also sold to wholesalers at the Simunjan Hawker Centre and surrounding communities.
He reminded that the success of such initiatives depended heavily on the community’s commitment to ensure continuity and proper maintenance of the facilities provided.
With the success of this pilot project, he said Kampung Nanas Hilir had become an example for other communities in Simunjan, showing how modern hydroponic farming could serve as a catalyst for local economic development and community wellbeing.
