KAPIT: The Pekit Poco-Poco Competition transformed Kapit Town Square into a lively hub of music, dance and cultural celebration on Wednesday, emerging as one of the highlights of the Kapit Cultural Festival (KCF) 2026.

The energetic competition drew enthusiastic participation from local groups, with colourful and creative performances reflecting the strong community spirit and multicultural identity of the district.

Kapit District Council chairman Andy Lawrence said festivals such as KCF serve not only as a platform for entertainment and recreation, but also as an important avenue for preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the district’s diverse communities.

“The success of this festival proves the strong spirit of unity and close cooperation among various parties, including the organising committee, government agencies, participants, volunteers and the local community,” he said during the Pekit Poco-Poco Competition ceremony held in conjunction with KCF 2026.

He added that the festival also provides an opportunity to introduce local customs, traditional arts, cultural practices and local delicacies to visitors from both within and outside the area, while contributing to the growth of tourism and the local economy.

Organised by the Kapit District Office, the programme began with the arrival of guests of honour followed by a luncheon before continuing with the much-anticipated poco-poco competition.

Throughout the event, participants displayed strong teamwork and high energy, entertaining the crowd with vibrant performances that further enlivened the festival atmosphere.
