SERIAN: The Kedup constituency has received RM2,493,000 in allocations for church infrastructure upgrades, community programmes and early schooling assistance under the Unit For Other Religions (Unifor) and Rural Small Projects (MRP) funds.

The allocations were presented by Deputy Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development and Kedup assemblyman Datuk Martin Ben during a handover ceremony at the Kedup Service Centre on Monday (Dec 15), which was attended by about 40 recipients and community representatives.

Of the total amount, RM2,325,000 was channelled through the Unifor grant to 12 churches in Kedup for repair and upgrading works aimed at improving safety and comfort for worshippers.

“The assistance from Unifor enables churches to carry out upgrading works in a more organised and effective manner based on community needs,” he was quoted as saying in a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).

He also reminded churches seeking new allocations to submit progress reports for completed or ongoing projects as part of accountability requirements, particularly by their chairpersons and secretaries.

During the same event, Martin presented MRP cheques to 14 recipients, including associations, clubs and village development and security committees (JKKKs), to support various community activities in the constituency.

Earlier, he also presented Back-to-School assistance to 265 pupils from 22 primary schools in Kedup during a ceremony at the Serian District Education Office.

Each pupil received a RM100 schooling voucher, bringing the total assistance disbursed to RM26,500. The vouchers were handed over to headmasters for distribution to eligible students.
