KUCHING: The King’s Scout Brotherhood of Malaysia (PPRM) has handed over N95 masks for public usage as haze raises health and daily activity concerns.
The handovers are part of a community-focused social responsibility initiative by the PPRM, through its Sarawak branch, in response to the current haze situation affecting communities in the state.
PPRM Sarawak said it was working towards providing face masks through relevant community and public health organisations as concerns continue over the effects of the haze on public health and daily activities.
These organisations include the Jawatankuasa Kemajuan dan Keselamatan Kampung (JKKK), Kawasan Rukun Tetangga (KRT) and Sarawak State Health Department (JKNS).
“The initiative is intended to be more than the distribution of essential items. It is a practical expression of the Scout spirit of service, compassion, responsibility and community solidarity.
“The effort reflects PPRM’s longstanding commitment to serving society and caring for the wellbeing of the community, particularly during challenging circumstances.”
The organisation also stressed that community resilience depended on cooperation between different sectors of society.
“By working with health authorities, community organisations and local leaders, we hope to strengthen awareness and encourage communities to look after one another during periods of environmental and public health concern.
“The initiative is also in line with the fundamental Scout principle of ‘Be Prepared’, which involves not only preparing oneself but also being ready to assist others when circumstances require.
“We bring together individuals who have achieved the King’s Scout Award and continue to uphold the values and principles learned through Scouting.”
It said that while the King’s Scout journey represented an important achievement, the meaning of the award extended beyond recognition and carried a continuing responsibility to contribute to society.
“Through the initiative, PPRM Sarawak hopes to demonstrate that Scouting does not end when a Scout receives the highest youth award, with the values of service and leadership continuing throughout life.”
For the Sarawak branch, it said that community service is not regarded simply as an occasional activity but as part of a continuing commitment to make a positive difference wherever help is needed.
PPRM said the initiative also reinforced its vision of bringing together King’s Scouts across generations to continue serving communities, supporting one another and contributing towards a stronger and more caring Malaysia.
“Environmental challenges such as haze could affect communities across different backgrounds and hoped its efforts would encourage more organisations and individuals to come forward in the same spirit of ‘service before self’.
“We remain committed to carrying the Scout spirit beyond the uniform and into the community, society and meaningful action.”
