KUCHING: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM), through the Social Welfare Department (JKM), is always prepared to assist individuals or families experiencing trauma and in need of emotional support.

Assuring this, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said counselling services and social support are among the main forms of aid provided by JKM, in addition to referrals to other assistance based on the current needs of the victims.

“Counselling and social support services are among our priorities to help those facing stress, trauma, or in need of emotional guidance,” she said when met by reporters at the launch of the PSSS YKN Friends: Caring Students programme at i-CATS University College here yesterday (Oct 4).

She added JKM officers nationwide, including at district level, are ready to ensure aid is delivered swiftly and effectively.

“JKM is always ready. In every district, we have officers to facilitate aid delivery and to reach out to victims,” she added.

Touching on solidarity with the people of Palestine, she said Malaysia has never wavered in expressing support through various assistance and aid efforts.

“It is difficult to say that the efforts made are insufficient. Many parties, including government agencies and non-governmental organisations, continue to be committed to helping the people of Palestine,” she explained.

Malaysia also works closely with international bodies such as the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), which coordinates various cross-border aid missions together with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) from around the world as a sign of humanitarian solidarity.

She further explained that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim plays an important role in advocating for the plight of the people of Gaza at the international level.

“The Prime Minister has never stopped mentioning aid to Gaza. He has even been in direct contact with several world leaders to obtain cooperation for immediate action,” she stressed.
