KUCHING: The Kuching Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) strengthened its grassroots engagement through a dialogue session with its market sub-branch in conjunction with the 67th “Sa’ati” commemorative activities on Saturday (May 17).

The session served as a platform for members to exchange views on urban development, community concerns and grassroots initiatives affecting residents and the business community in the Padungan area.

Acting Kuching SUPP chairman Jong Yean Pin said discussions also focused on challenges faced by local traders and efforts to support the continued development of the market area, one of Kuching’s key commercial hubs.

“Such cross-generational cooperation reflects the true spirit of ‘Sa’ati’ — unity, mutual support and dedication to the community,” Jong said in a statement, urging younger members to continue working closely with the people for the future progress of Padungan and Kuching.

Jong also expressed confidence in acting branch secretary and youth chief Nicholas Wung Duk Ying, describing him as a capable and energetic young leader with strong grassroots involvement and leadership qualities.

Established in 1984, the market sub-branch has served the Padungan constituency for more than 40 years.

Jong noted that both the Kuching branch and market sub-branch have long maintained close cooperation in community service, grassroots outreach and party affairs.

Meanwhile, market sub-branch chairman Chai Ping Soon pledged the sub-branch’s full support for the Kuching branch’s upcoming election preparations.

Describing the dialogue as meaningful and successful, he expressed hope that more similar engagement sessions would be organised in the future to further strengthen party ties and reinforce their commitment to community service.

Also present were branch treasurer Bong Lian Huan, women’s chief Chai Mian Nyen, Kapitan Lucas Yong, Kapitan Fong Yee Chee and 67th Sa’ati Night organising chairman Lucas Lim.
