KUCHING: This city will host the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP) next year, bringing together engineering institutions from across the Asia-Pacific region.
Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sarawak Branch chairman Dr Angelia Liew San Chuin said the hosting of FEIAP 2026 in Sarawak will provide an important platform for professional exchange, mutual recognition and collaboration across various engineering disciplines.
“The presence of FEIAP 2026 here will create opportunities for meaningful interaction, enhance visibility and stimulate economic activities within Sarawak’s engineering and professional communities,” she was quoted in a TVS report during the IEM Sarawak Branch Annual Dinner 2025 held here, last night (Dec 19).
Dr Liew reaffirmed IEM Sarawak’s commitment to continue strengthening its role as a strategic partner of the state government in Sarawak’s development through contributions of technical expertise, professional advice and the upholding of engineering standards.
“We are not merely a professional body. IEM Sarawak is a platform for nation-building. We support the government by providing professional input, technical expertise and ensuring that standards and safety are upheld,” she said.
She said that IEM Sarawak currently represents thousands of professional engineers, graduate engineers and students from various disciplines, making it one of the strongest technical expertise groups in the state.
The contributions of IEM members, she said, span the planning, design and implementation of systems and infrastructure that support daily life, economic activities and climate resilience.
Dr Liew also noted that the development of talent and leadership among young engineers remains a key priority for IEM Sarawak through various upskilling programmes and continuous training.
“When engineers are strong, Sarawak is strong — and when engineering standards are high, trust is built. This is how engineering empowers, quietly, but decisively,” she said.
