KUCHING: Ramadan evenings here are set to be filled with comforting kampung flavours as Lane 187 at Theatre Hotel introduces its ‘Selera Kampung’ buffet, offering diners a nostalgic dining experience inspired by traditional Malaysian village cuisine.
Running from Feb 20 until March 19, 2026, the buffet aims to recreate the warmth of kampung-style cooking and the familiar experience of breaking fast with family and friends during the holy month.
According to the restaurant management, the concept behind this year’s Ramadan buffet was inspired by the desire to highlight local flavours rooted in the culinary experience and cultural background of its head chef.
“The inspiration behind Lane 187 Café’s special dinner buffet this year focuses on local flavours, reflecting the head chef’s experience and cultural background,” said Head Chef of Lane 187 @Theatre Hotel Kuching, Chef Shahrul Afendy to Sarawak Tribune.
“It is about showcasing exciting local tastes while giving diners a familiar experience with flavours that people commonly associate with the fasting season,” said Shahrul.
Held daily from 6.30 pm to 10 pm, the ‘Selera Kampung’ buffet invites guests to enjoy a wide variety of traditional Malaysian dishes in a welcoming and comfortable setting, making it suitable for families, friends and colleagues gathering to break their fast together.
He said the buffet stands out from other Ramadan dining options in the city by focusing on affordability, variety and a unique dining environment.
“We are different in our own way, focusing on value for money, variety and flavour while also providing a comfortable environment for diners.
“Lane 187 also features one of the largest in-house theatre screens in Kuching for a café, which allows us to accommodate guests who may wish to organise special gatherings or events while dining with us,” he added.
The buffet spread includes a selection of traditional favourites as well as signature dishes prepared by the restaurant’s culinary team.
Among the must-try items featured on the menu are homemade chicken murtabak, daging dendeng and sup tulang, which are expected to be popular choices among diners seeking hearty and flavourful dishes during iftar.
To keep the dining experience exciting for returning guests, the restaurant has also introduced a rotating weekly menu throughout the Ramadan period.
“The reason we change the buffet menu every week is to offer more variety and give our customers something new to look forward to.
“It creates an element of surprise for diners and encourages them to return, as they will be able to try different dishes rather than seeing the same menu every time they visit,” he said.
The restaurant hopes the ‘Selera Kampung’ buffet will not only provide satisfying meals but also create meaningful experiences for guests celebrating the holy month.
“We hope diners will enjoy an unforgettable food experience when they come for iftar at Lane 187.
“At the same time, we want them to experience the quality of our service and the value we offer, so that they may return in the future to celebrate special occasions or even organise events with us,” he said.
Priced at RM68 nett for adults and RM38 nett for children, the buffet provides an accessible dining option for families planning Ramadan outings.
Located at Lane 187 within Theatre Hotel Kuching, the venue offers a cosy atmosphere suitable for both intimate dinners and larger group gatherings throughout the fasting month.
Guests interested in experiencing the ‘Selera Kampung’ buffet are encouraged to make early reservations, particularly during weekends and the days leading up to Hari Raya, when demand for iftar buffets tends to increase.
