MIRI: The long-awaited Phase Four of the Miri Public Park, under the Projek Rakyat initiative, will open its doors to visitors soon as it is now at 97 per cent completion.
The RM1.5 million project, covering the Rock Cliff and Forest Park zone along Jalan Hills, has been billed as a new jewel in the city’s crown.
It is expected to draw both locals and tourists with its hillside trails, panoramic views and fresh outdoor spaces.
Transport Minister and Senadin assemblyman, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, inspected the progress at the site this week. While pleased with the near-completion, he noted that several finishing touches still need attention before the park can be opened to the public.
“These include drainage, pedestrian pathways, landscaping, and enhancing the public toilets from the main road with greenery,” he said during his walkabout yesterday.
He added that the consultant and the city council’s engineering team have been tasked with reviewing these details.
Spanning 21 acres, the new park is being positioned as a lifestyle and tourism attraction for Miri, offering space for leisure walks, exercise, and appreciation for nature.
Lee also stressed the importance of safety and maintenance, warning against vandalism that has marred other public facilities. Closed-circuit cameras are among the measures being considered to safeguard the park.
“This is for everyone’s enjoyment—residents and visitors alike. I hope the community will take pride in looking after it,” he said.
During the same visit, Lee also inspected a nearby landslip and urged Miri City Council to prioritise remedial works ahead of the year-end monsoon.
He was accompanied by Deputy Mayor Ariffin Mohamad, community leader Kapitan Jee Kee Hing, councillor Yap Siew Jin, and officers from the council’s landscape and engineering divisions.
