LAWAS: Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah has chosen Lawas as the first stop of his official working visits across all 28 police districts in the state, reflecting his commitment to strengthening ties between the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and local communities.
“I am honoured that Lawas is my first destination as Police Commissioner.
“I last served here in 1996, and I am delighted to reconnect with the community. This visit marks the beginning of my efforts to engage closely with all district police chiefs and community leaders,” he said during a dinner event at Hotel Seri Malaysia Lawas on Tuesday.
Zainal pointed out that the fight against drugs remains one of the focuses for the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK), with more emphasis on community-based strategies to address the issue effectively.
“We will face this drug issue together, not only in Lawas but throughout Sarawak. It is a shared duty to ensure that every citizen can live safely, free from fear and criminal threats,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong, local authorities, and the community for their continued support, noting that public trust and cooperation are central to effective policing.
“Maintaining security is a heavy responsibility that must be carried out with integrity and unity.
“I look forward to working hand in hand with all levels of society,” he said.
The dinner, organised by the Lawas District Police Headquarters (IPD), was also attended by Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner DCP Saifullizan Ishak, Lawas police chief DSP Liong Tindan, along with community leaders and representatives.
