LIMBANG: The agricultural sector continues to play an important role in driving inclusive development and strengthening the rural economy, especially in rapidly developing areas.
Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said various initiatives are being planned and implemented to strengthen the agricultural sector in Limbang, including the establishment of a more organised processing infrastructure.
“I will continue working to enhance the agricultural sector in Limbang, where we already have a completed factory known as the collection, processing and packaging centre in Kubong.
“At present, we are still awaiting the purchase of machinery to process agricultural produce, which in the initial phase will focus on chilli crops, followed by calamansi limes, honey jackfruit and durians,” he said during the Pre-Gawai 2026 Programme held here recently.
Abdul Rahman, who is also Bukit Kota assemblyman, said the agricultural development agenda would be carried out holistically while taking into consideration the need for basic amenities in rural communities.
“I will continue efforts to strengthen the agricultural sector in Limbang alongside improving basic facilities in villages. Under the Bukit Kota constituency alone, there are around 60 villages and longhouses,” he said.
In a separate development, he also touched on the annual development allocation provided to each Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state representative to further empower rural development, particularly in villages and longhouses.
“Every GPS assemblyman receives an annual allocation of approximately
RM8 million. Of that amount, RM5 million is allocated under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) to construct community halls and implement various projects such as cement roads connecting houses,” he added.
