SIBU: Preparations for the 2026 Asia Pacific Lions Leaders Summit have entered the final stretch, with organisers confirming that Lions leaders and delegates from 19 countries and territories will converge here next month for one of the region’s most significant Lions leadership gatherings.
Hosted by Lions International District 308-A2, the summit will take place from July 17 to 19 at the Kingwood Hotel, bringing together senior Lions leaders from across the Asia-Pacific to strengthen international fellowship, foster leadership excellence and explore new avenues for humanitarian collaboration.
The summit will feature a comprehensive programme comprising leadership forums, membership development sessions, service project discussions, community outreach activities, cultural exchange programmes, an opening ceremony banquet, the District Governor Inauguration and Cabinet Installation Banquet, as well as a closing luncheon.
With less than a month before the event, the organising committee has completed its final coordination meeting at Kingwood Hotel here recently to fine-tune operational details and ensure every aspect of the international gathering is ready.
The meeting chaired by the organising committee chairlady, Datuk Betty Wong Yieng focused on reviewing critical logistics, including delegate reception, protocol arrangements, transportation, registration procedures, banquet management, seating plans, media coordination and the overall flow of programmes.
Committee members from all working units attended the meeting, demonstrating strong teamwork and commitment towards delivering a seamless and memorable summit for international participants.
Wong described the participation of representatives from 19 countries and territories as a significant milestone for both Sibu and Lions International District 308-A2.
She said the summit would serve as an invaluable platform for Lions leaders to exchange ideas, share best practices and strengthen partnerships in advancing humanitarian service throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
Beyond the conference agenda, she added, the event would also showcase Sibu’s multicultural heritage, renowned Bornean hospitality and unique local attractions to visiting delegates, further enhancing the town’s international profile.
Wong also called on all organising committee members and volunteers to maintain close coordination in the final phase of preparations and to uphold the Lions spirit of service by extending a warm and professional welcome to every international guest.
The summit is expected not only to reinforce international cooperation within the Lions movement but also to further establish Sibu as a capable destination for hosting major regional and international events.
