SERIAN: A local man was arrested for allegedly engaging in online gambling activities at a premises here on Wednesday (Apr 8).
Serian police chief Supt Freddy Bian said the suspect was detained at about 3.30pm during an inspection carried out by a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the district police headquarters (IPD).
He said initial checks found the individual believed to be involved in illegal online gambling activities.
“The suspect was arrested and several items were seized to assist in further investigations,” he said in a statement.
Freddy said the case is being investigated under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
“If convicted, the offender may face a fine of up to RM100,000 or imprisonment of up to five years,” he said.
He advised the public not to engage in any form of illegal gambling.
“The police will continue to intensify enforcement and take firm action against those who violate the law,” he said.
