KUCHING: A local man ended up behind bars after narcotics police found 464 grammes of suspected cannabis in his possession last Thursday (April 16).
The operations, carried out by the Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID), was conducted at a house in Kampung Malaysia Jaya, Petra Jaya.
Kuching Police said the seized drugs are estimated to be worth RM1,392.
Initial urine screening found the 28-year-old tested positive for THC. He has been remanded until April 23 to facilitate investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.
Police said the success stemmed from continuous intelligence efforts and public cooperation, adding that they will not compromise with individuals involved in drug trafficking.
Members of the public are reminded that possession, distribution, or harbouring of drug-related activities are serious offences under the law.
