BARAM: The state government’s recognition of Long Siut Village goes beyond administrative formality, reflecting the strong unity and cooperation within the local community.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala, said that the recognition carries significant meaning for the villagers, particularly the Kenyah Jamok community.

“This recognition is not only meaningful administratively, but also serves as an appreciation of the community’s hard work, collective spirit, and unity.

“With this official status, Long Siut Village is eligible to receive various facilities and development aid from the state government and associated agencies,” he added.

He said this when speaking at the Long Siut Village Recognition Ceremony and Appointment of the Long Siut Village Head recently.

During the ceremony, the Mulu assemblyman also officiated the appointment of Lawai Ulok as the first Village Head of Long Siut – a historic moment for the local community, who are now officially acknowledged within the state’s administrative structure.

He emphasised that the appointment of a village head is a significant trust that carries great responsibility, acting as the main bridge between the government and grassroots communities.

The event, organised by the Long Siut Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), Sungai Selungo, Baram, was also attended by Telang Usan District officer, Ezra Uda, community leaders, and local residents, and took place in a lively and celebratory atmosphere.
