MERADONG: Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii visited 13 longhouses in the Meradong area to assess community development needs and monitor the implementation of projects under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) recently.
The visit was part of his continuing effort to ensure development initiatives meant for rural communities are carried out efficiently and provide tangible benefits to residents within the stipulated timeframe.
In a press statement on Monday (June 8), Huang, who is Sarikei MP, said continuous monitoring of development projects remains a priority to ensure approved works meet the expectations of the people.
“Our priority is to ensure that approved projects can be completed as soon as possible so that the people can enjoy the facilities and conveniences provided without unnecessary delay,” he said.
During the visit, Huang also engaged directly with longhouse residents, listening to their views, proposals and concerns regarding infrastructure upgrades, public facilities and other development requirements in their respective communities.
He stressed that regular engagement at the grassroots level is essential in helping leaders better understand the actual needs of the people.
“Visits like these provide me with an opportunity to understand the real needs of the community and ensure that assistance and development efforts can be channelled more effectively,” he said.
“We will continue monitoring project implementation and ensure that no one is left behind in the development process,” he added.
Among the areas visited were Ulu Strass, Sungai Strass (Nanga Strass) and Sungai Lemayong, as part of his routine outreach programme since being elected MP.
Apart from inspecting development projects, Huang attended the Ngiling Tikar celebration at Rumah Riti and participated in the traditional Miring ceremony at Rumah Murieng, where he was warmly welcomed by residents.
