MIRI: A lorry-tanker driver was killed after the vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a ditch along the Miri-Bintulu road on Wednesday.
The tanker’s co-driver was reported to have survived the mishap.
According to Sarawak Fire and Rescue department operation centre (PGO), the co-driver was rescued by a passerby who happened to be at the area when the incident occurred.
The 65-year-old driver was reportedly trapped inside the vehicle.
Six firemen from Samalaju fire station were rushed to the scene upon receiving a distress call on the incident at 10.35am.
Upon arriving at the scene, the firemen used an excavator to extricate the trapped driver out from the tanker.
Unfortunately, he died due to serious bodily injuries.
The actual cause of the accident is not immediately known and investigation is underway.
