BELAGA: The Sarawak government is stepping up efforts to accelerate several key development projects in Sungai Asap to further enhance basic facilities and infrastructure in the resettlement area.
State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki said one of the main priorities is the construction of a new Sungai Asap sub-district office, which is slated for completion in March next year.
“I will return to ensure the building is completed on schedule, as the current district office is far too small,” he said during his working visit to Uma Daro in Sungai Asap yesterday (Nov 13).
During the visit, he also inspected the site for new government quarters, which he described as essential for providing more comfortable accommodation for officers serving in the area.
“The location is highly suitable, and I have requested that a ground-breaking ceremony be held early next year,” he said, adding that the proposal to upgrade the nearby rest house will be presented to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for consideration.
Abu Bakar also said an urgent meeting will be convened with relevant departments to address issues concerning smaller road projects that have yet to start, despite the completion of the main road.
“I will ask the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA) to ensure these road projects commence early next year,” he said.
He added that several other suggestions raised by community leaders — including the need for additional staff, improved district office facilities and the development of a children’s playgroun — will be forwarded to higher authorities for further review.
At the same event, he expressed his appreciation to the Uma Daro community for their warm hospitality throughout the visit.
“We hope this visit gives government agencies a clearer picture of the real needs of the Sungai Asap community,” he said.
