KLANG: Malaysia wrapped up the group stage of the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup with a third consecutive defeat, losing to the West Indies by 53 runs at Bayuemas Oval yesterday.

After earlier losses to Sri Lanka and defending champions India, Malaysia finished bottom of Group A.
The West Indies scored 112/7, while Malaysia was bowled out for 59 runs in 18 overs, their highest score in the tournament.

Despite strong fielding, Malaysia struggled with their batting. National captain Nur Dania Syuhada Abedul Samad acknowledged that nerves and miscommunication led to a collapse, but remained hopeful for a better performance in the upcoming playoff.

“I think we had a chance to win, but a few mistakes and miscommunication caused us to start losing wickets. Maybe because the players were nervous as they playing for the first time in a big tournament at the level of the World Cup,” – she told BERNAMA.

Notably, six players had to rush to sit for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) sports science paper immediately after the match, highlighting the balance between their sporting commitments and academic responsibilities.
Malaysia are now slated to face off Nepal in the 13th-16th playoff today at Johor Cricket Academy Oval. – BERNAMA
