KUCHING: A local man was fined RM2,500, in default five months’ imprisonment, by the Magistrate’s Court here today for self-administering dangerous drugs.

Senior Assistant Registrar Syazwani Sajeli imposed the sentence on Jason Mark Jamus, 22, after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He was also ordered to undergo two years of police supervision upon completion of his sentence under Section 38B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The offence carries a penalty of a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, in addition to mandatory police supervision of between two and three years upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, a police team from the Padawan District Narcotics Crime Investigation Department escorted the accused to the department’s office at about 1.35pm on Oct 6, 2022, for a urine screening test.

Initial testing on the urine sample returned positive results for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine, leading to the accused’s arrest.

A police report was subsequently lodged and the urine sample was sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory of the Pathology Department at Sarawak General Hospital for analysis.

The laboratory report later confirmed the presence of Amphetamine and Methamphetamine, both listed under the First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Adriana Maisarah Mohd Farid appeared for the prosecution. The accused was unrepresented.
