KUCHING: A man who was involved in methamphetamine abuse was sentenced to a RM3,000 fine, in default nine months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court today.

Jackson Batin, 42, from Selangor, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (Act 234) when it was read before Senior Assistant Registrar, Abdurrahman Abrar Jarni.

He was convicted under the same section for inducing methamphetamine into his body.

The offence occurred when he tested positive for drugs while in custody at the Kuching District Police Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department at 2.25 pm on May 7, 2021.

If found guilty, the charge carries a maximum fine of RM5,000 or a two-year jail term.

According to court facts, police from the Kuching Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department detained Jackson on suspicion of drug abuse.

Initial urine screening confirmed he used the illicit drugs, and subsequent testing at the Sarawak General Hospital Pathology Department confirmed the presence of amphetamine in his system.

The court also ordered Jackson to undergo a two-year supervision programme under the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) after serving his sentence.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Chuah Kai Sheng handled the prosecution, while Jackson appeared unrepresented.
