BAU: A local man was found dead in a river at Kampung Skibang late last night (June 28) after he failed to return home from collecting snails earlier in the day.

Bau police chief DSP Dr Daram Ruer said the victim, identified as Ricksen Ng, 32, was believed to have gone alone to the river around 10:00 am to search for ‘tengkuyung’ (river snails).

“When he did not return home by 7:00 pm, his brother-in-law and several villagers launched a search.

“They eventually found him lying in the river and moved his body to the riverbank.

“The victim’s sibling later lodged a police report at Bau station and contacted paramedics from Bau Hospital, who arrived at the scene and confirmed his death at 12:01 am today (June 29),” he said.

His body has been sent to the hospital for a post-mortem.

Daram added that Ng had a long-standing history of epilepsy, dating back to when he was three-years-old.

“Preliminary investigations found no indication of foul play. The case is being classified as sudden death and investigations are ongoing,” he said.
