Man gets 36 months for abusing wife, daughters

KUCHING: A man was sentenced to a total of 36 months imprisonment by Magistrates’ Court here on Monday (Jun 8) for three counts of domestic abuse involving his wife and two daughters at a house in Kampung Gita Lama, Jalan Petra Jaya.

The accused, Ibrahim Yusuf, 47, pleaded guilty to the charges, which was read before magistrate Leona Dominic Mojiliu.

The court sentenced Ibrahim to 12 months’ imprisonment for each charge, to be served consecutively.

All offences are framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 326A of the same Code.

On the first charge, Ibrahim was accused of voluntarily causing hurt to his wife at about 10.50am on Jun 3 at their residence.

On the second and third charges, he was also accused of committing the same offence against his daughters, aged 23 and 15, at the same time and location.

All offences are framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 326A of the same Code.

On Jun 3 at about 10.50am, the complainant, who is the accused’s wife, was inside a house at Kampung Gita Lama, and the complainant was together with the accused and their two daughters.

The accused then acted aggressively during a family argument and subsequently threw a wooden chair support towards the complainant’s children, causing injuries and pain to the victims.

In addition, when the complainant attempted to protect her children, a struggle occurred between the complainant and the accused, during which the complainant sustained an injury to her left eye after being struck by the suspect’s finger.

On Jun 5 at about 9.30pm, police arrested the accused in Kampung Gita Lama, and was subsequently detained at the Tabuan Jaya police station lock-up.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Fauzulutfi Suriani prosecuted, while the investigating officer was Nur Ain Wong Abdullah.

The accused is unrepresented.
