KUCHING: A mentally disabled man was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court here on Wednesday (June 10) for damaging a vehicle in Batu Kawa last year.
Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali imposed the sentence on Bujang Sanusi, 68, after pleading guilty to a charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code.
The court ordered that the jail term run from the date of his arrest on July 7, 2025.
Section 427 of the Penal Code provides for imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Bujang was charged for committing mischief by causing damage to a Perodua Axia belonging to a 29-year-old woman.
According to the charge, he committed the offence at about 2.20 am on June 2, 2025, in front of a factory along Jalan Batu Kawa.
The court heard that the accused threw an object at the vehicle, causing the rear passenger-side window to crack and resulting in losses estimated at RM250.
Investigations revealed that the complainant was driving the car when it was struck by a stone, damaging the window.
She subsequently lodged a police report.
The accused was arrested during an operation conducted by the Padawan District Police Headquarters (IPD) Task Force at about 7.11pm on July 7, 2025, near a second-hand trader’s shop along Jalan Batu Kawa/Jalan Moyan.
Police seized three pieces of brick and a concrete stone during the arrest.
The investigation further found that the accused had committed the act of mischief against the complainant’s vehicle.
A key witness positively identified him during an identification parade, and investigators concluded that there was sufficient evidence linking him to the offence.
On Monday (June 8), he was also sentenced to one year’s imprisonment for committing mischief by throwing a stone at a van travelling along Jalan Batu Kawa.
He was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code for damaging a Toyota Hiace van belonging to a 40-year-old woman, causing losses amounting to RM900.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan. Bujang was unrepresented.
