KUCHING: Narcotics police arrested a local man and seized suspected ketamine and cannabis liquid worth RM2,700 on Tuesday (May 12).
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the arrest was made at around 2.45pm behind a food outlet along Jalan Song here.
“Checks on the 26-year-old led to the discovery of 8g of suspected ketamine and 42.5g of suspected cannabis liquid.
“A preliminary urine screening test found the suspect positive for ketamine,” he said.
Background checks revealed that he is a first-time offender with no prior record.
The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries imprisonment of up to five years, and up to nine strokes of the cane, upon conviction.
The suspect has been remanded until May 17 to facilitate investigations.
Alexson said the success stemmed from continuous intelligence gathering and public cooperation, adding that police would not compromise with individuals involved in drug trafficking activities.
“Possessing, distributing or protecting drug-related activities are serious offences under the law,” he said.
He added that the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) remains committed to combating drugs to protect both present and future generations.
Members of the public with information on drug-related activities can report them to Bukit Aman NCID at 012-2087222 or Sarawak NCID at 017-5929211.
