MOSCOW: Paul Doyle, accused of driving into a crowd of Liverpool football fans, has been sentenced to 21.5 years in prison, Merseyside Police said, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
In August, British prosecutors charged 54-year-old Doyle with 31 counts of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving.
“Today at Liverpool Crown Court he was jailed for 21-and-a-half years,” police said in a statement on Tuesday.
In May, Doyle drove into a crowd of people celebrating the Liverpool football team victory in the British Premier League.
The police did not consider the run over an act of terrorism and were investigating the incident as a crime. Initially, the police stated that the detainee was suspected of driving under drugs.
As a result of the incident, a total of 134 people were injured. – BERNAMA-SPUTNIK/RIA NOVOSTI
