KUCHING: Students from SEGi College Sarawak gained firsthand exposure to corporate communications and broadcasting during an academic visit to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) headquarters, here today (July 6).

In a statement, UKAS said the visit involved first to third year Diploma in Mass Communication students under the college’s Industry to Classroom Programme and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Initiative.

UKAS said the delegation was welcomed by its assistant director of Corporate Communications, Peter Sibon, and other senior officers at the agency’s headquarters in Bangunan Baitulmakmur.

It said during the visit, UKAS officers introduced the agency’s background, functions and role as the Sarawak government’s official communication channel.

The students were also briefed on the agency’s responsibilities, including news production, media management, strategic communications and digital content creation.

UKAS said the students later toured its studio to observe multimedia production and broadcasting operations, giving them a closer look at the professional working environment in the industry.

It added that the visit also enabled the students to connect classroom learning with practical industry experience.

According to UKAS, the programme forms part of the college’s efforts to strengthen industry-based learning and provide students with greater exposure to current developments in the field of mass communication.
