Local man jailed for house trespassing

SIBU: A 33-year-old man was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court here yesterday (May 5) for committing house trespass.

Empari Ayon, 33, of Kanowit pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read and explained to him through an interpreter.

Magistrate Romario Jonoi convicted him of the offence charged on his own plea of guilt.

He was indicted for committing house trepass at a residence along Mantis Road on Apr 22 at about 2.11 pm.

The offence falls under Section 448 of the Penal Code which provides for an imprisonment of up to three years or fine of RM5,000 or both, upon conviction.

According to the fact of the case, on Apr 22 at about 2.11 pm, the complainant, after finishing a shower, found his room in a messy condition and saw the accused fled the scene.

Upon checking, the complainant found that no items were missing. However, he came to the police station to lodge a report for personal safety, fearing that something unwanted might happen in the future.

Mn May 4 at about 10.10 am, a team of police, acting on information received, detained the accused at Lai Chee Road for further investigation.

Investigation outcome revealed that on the day of the incident, the accused entered the complainant’s rented room without permission with the intention to steal.

The complainant, upon returning to his room after he had showered, saw the accused flee the scene.

However, the complainant managed to take a photo of the accused’s face during the incident.

The case was prosecuted by ASP Sokolinkam Changgan while the accused was unrepresented by legal counsel, was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his conviction.
