MIRI: A 31-year-old man has been sentenced to six months in prison by the court after admitting to receiving a stolen motorcycle.
The man pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code, which covers the offence of dishonestly receiving or retaining stolen property.
According to police, the complainant discovered his Yamaha Y15ZR missing from outside his home on Lorong Ketapang 9, in Tudan Phase 5, Miri, at around 7am on May 13. He suspected the motorcycle had been stolen and reported it to police.
Investigators traced the vehicle to Kampung Lereng Bukit in Miri, where it was recovered at around 1am on Jun 26
The man was arrested at the scene and the motorcycle seized as evidence.
Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah urged residents to take greater precautions to protect their vehicles, recommending additional locks and GPS tracking devices, which he said were inexpensive relative to the value of the property they protect.
Police have asked anyone with information to contact Miri district police headquarters or their nearest station.
