MIRI: A 39-year-old man was killed after the car he was driving overturned into a drain near Simpang Marudi along the Pan Borneo Highway this afternoon (April 9).
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the victim was found trapped inside the Perodua Axia when firefighters arrived at the scene.
“He was extricated using special rescue equipment before being pronounced dead by medical personnel,” a Bomba spokesperson said in a statement.
A five-year-old boy, who was also in the vehicle, had earlier been rescued by members of the public and was treated by Health Ministry personnel at the scene.
The victim was later identified as Jasper Kalang Ayub.
The body was handed over to the police for further action.
The operation, carried out by a team from the Lopeng station, was brought under control at 3.35 pm and concluded at 4.04 pm.
