BETONG: A man was killed in a collision with a cargo lorry at a P-turn junction along the Pan Borneo highway at the Jelukong area on Friday.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) reported that it received a call about an accident on the highway at 10 pm.

A rescue team from Betong fire station was dispatched to the scene located 32 kilometres away, and they arrived at 10.31 pm.

“Upon arrival, the commander on the ground reported that a compact SUV vehicle and a cargo lorry loaded with frozen fish were involved in a collision at a P-turn junction.

“There were two male victims involved in the accident. The lorry driver has been extricated by members of the public while the other victim was still trapped on the left side of the SUV,” it said.

Rescue team moved on to extricate the trapped victim using heavy equipment. However, the 26-year-old victim was already deceased before their arrival.

The victim’s remains were handed over to medical personnel and the police for further action.

The team carried on to clear the road of accident debris, and once the area was deemed safe, they returned to their station.

The operation ended 10.47 pm.
