KUCHING: Police have arrested a local man for drug abuse and issued 81 traffic summonses during an integrated crime prevention operation conducted across several areas in the city.
The operation, involving four senior officers and 41 personnel from various divisions and stations, was carried out from 10pm on Oct 3 to 5am on Oct 4 around Tabuan Jaya, Gita and Sekama.
A total of 391 individuals and 318 vehicles were inspected at mounted roadblocks, resulting in 81 summonses being issued for various traffic offences.
Police also arrested a man in his 30s under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for allegedly abusing drugs.
The operation aimed to reduce the crime rate, curb street crimes, enhance police omnipresence, and detect suspicious individuals and vehicles.
It was conducted through mounted roadblocks, crime prevention patrols, and inspections at entertainment outlets to ensure public safety and harmony in Kuching.
