SRI AMAN: A 36-year-old man has been remanded for three days from today (Sept 22) until Sept 25 to assist investigations into an alleged arson incident at a convenience store here last Sunday (Sept 20).
Magistrate Iris Awen Jon granted the remand application after Investigating Officer Inspector Muhamad Huzairie Hamzah applied under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The suspect will be remanded at Sri Aman District Police Headquarters (IPD) lock up.
The case was investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code, which if convicted, the accused shall be punished with imprisonment of up to 20 years.
The suspect was represented by Counsel Daniel Ling.
Earlier, Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said police arrested the man at about 7.15pm yesterday (Sept 21).
He said the suspect was detained by a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
“Report stated that the suspect has been running an eatery in Saratok town for the past 10 years and was tested negative for drugs following a urine screening test.
“The team also seized a mobile phone from the suspect to facilitate investigations,” he said in a statement.
