KUCHING: Police have rounded up two suspected gang robbers, including a woman, in a breakthrough less than 24 hours after a violent robbery left a victim injured in Jalan Canna.
The local suspects, aged 19 and 25, were arrested during a joint operation by the district Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and Sarawak D9 CID along Jalan Satok yesterday (July 19).
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the arrests are believed to have solved the robbery case, which occurred a day before on July 18.
“Preliminary urine screening found that both suspects tested negative for drugs.
“Background checks found that only the male suspect has a prior record for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
“The duo have been remanded for five days to assist in the investigation,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt in committing a robbery, an offence punishable by up to 20 years’ imprisonment, and may also carry a fine or whipping, upon conviction.
