KUCHING: Sarawak Police Commissioner, Datuk Mancha Ata, paid a farewell visit to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Satria Pertiwi Complex here today.
During the visit, Mancha expressed his appreciation to the Premier, the state government and the people of Sarawak for their support and trust throughout his tenure.
He said the cooperation and acceptance he received from the community greatly facilitated efforts to safeguard security and public order in the state.
“During my service in Sarawak, I am deeply grateful for the acceptance of the people and the close cooperation, particularly in maintaining safety and the well-being of the state,” he told the media after the courtesy visit.
Mancha informed that he would hand over his duties to his successor, Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah, who will assume the post of Sarawak Police Commissioner effective September 26.
Reflecting on his 39-year career, Mancha began his service in Perak with the VAT69 Commando Unit for nearly three decades before being promoted and transferred to Sabah, where he served more than three years as Deputy Commander of the General Operations Force (GOF) Brigade.
He later headed the GOF Brigade Sarawak as its Commander from 2000 to 2001 before being appointed Deputy Sarawak Police Commissioner in 2021, a position he held until 2023.
Mancha said crime rates in Sarawak remained under control during his leadership as state police commissioner from 2023 to 2025, owing to close cooperation with the community.
“I am confident that my successor will continue the efforts to safeguard peace and security for the people of Sarawak,” he added.
