The manufacturing sector in Sarawak holds great significance within the framework of the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said it plays a crucial role in achieving Sarawak’s goal of six per cent to eight per cent annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth, necessary for attaining developed economy status by 2030.
“In 2021, the manufacturing sector contributed RM37.2 billion, making up 28.4 per cent of Sarawak’s economy and employing over 167,000 individuals. This highlights the sector’s significant impact on the region’s economic development,” he said.
The Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment said that the government remains committed to creating a business-friendly environment and will continue its efforts to attract more investments.
He said this in his ministerial winding-up speech during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting yesterday.
“These initiatives aim to foster additional business opportunities and generate more employment prospects in Sarawak,” he added.
Awang Tengah emphasised that the sustained focus on investment and the manufacturing sector solidifies Sarawak’s position as a rising economic powerhouse, paving the way for a prosperous future.
