KUCHING: The public toilet at the Seventh Mile Wet Market in Kota Sentosa is set for a major upgrade as part of the Sarawak Government’s ongoing effort to improve community facilities in high-traffic areas.

The project, following a RM400,000 Rural Transformation Project (RTP) upgrade of major sections of the market in 2023, aims to provide a cleaner, more hygienic, and user-friendly environment for traders and shoppers.

Kota Sentosa state assemblyman, Wilfred Yap Yau Sin, officiated at the handover of the Letter of Award (LoA) to the appointed contractor, Faiz Enterprise, which was selected through a transparent ‘cabut undi’ system. The project carries a total value of RM205,195.

Yap emphasised that the toilet upgrade is part of a broader commitment to ensure the people of Kota Sentosa have access to modern and well-maintained public amenities.

“These projects reflect the GPS government’s consistent delivery of meaningful development, not mere rhetoric. As part of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) within GPS, my commitment is to resolve long-standing issues and continue bringing in development that directly benefits our community,” he said.

He also thanked Padawan Municipal Council (PMC) officers for their support and monitoring role throughout the implementation process, adding that infrastructure and public amenity upgrades will remain a top priority, especially in markets, commercial centres, and public spaces that serve thousands of residents daily.

Work on the project will commence once the contractor mobilises on-site.
