KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng has urged the driver involved in the fatal hit-and-run along Jalan Stutong last week to come forward and face the consequences.

The victim, identified as Kenny Yeo, died after being struck from behind by a vehicle in the early hours of the morning.

The driver fled the scene, and police are still tracking down the suspect.

Wee, who visited the victim’s family this morning, described the incident as deeply distressing and said it had left a family grieving.

“If you are responsible, come forward. Face the consequences. Running away only deepens the wrongdoing,” he said in a statement.

He said no words could ease the pain of a life taken so suddenly and senselessly, extending his condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones.

“A life has been lost, and a family has been left grieving, because someone chose to drive without care, without responsibility, and then fled the scene,” he said.

On the same note, Wee urged all road users to remain vigilant, stressing that safety is a shared responsibility among drivers, motorcyclists and cyclists.

He also called on the community to look out for one another and to remember that every life on the road matters.

“Stay alert. Stay focused. Respect the rules. One moment of negligence can cost a life,” he added.
