KUCHING: A visit by a Kuching South City Council (MBKS) delegation to Timuran Kembangan Sdn Bhd’s Demak Laut facility has highlighted growing interest in expanding sustainable recycling practices and industry collaboration in Sarawak.
The delegation, led by MBKS Apartment/Small Recycling Project Committee chairman Councillor Kiing Sie Ying, toured the facility yesterday (May 5) as part of efforts to strengthen engagement with local recycling industry players.
Kiing said the company plays an important role in recycling used cooking oil and industrial oil, contributing to environmental protection and responsible waste management.
“We conducted a courtesy visit to the company and toured its factory,” he told Sarawak Tribune.
The delegation was welcomed by managing director Datuk Johnny Ting Su King, who briefed them on the company’s operations, including collection, treatment, purification and redistribution processes across Sarawak and Sabah.
Kiing described the company as among the pioneers in the recycling sector in the region.
“Their efforts not only reduce environmental pollution but also support the circular economy by transforming waste into reusable resources.
“This aligns with Sarawak’s future direction towards greener and more sustainable industries, including waste-to-resource initiatives and low-carbon development strategies,” he said.
He added that the visit also opened opportunities for closer collaboration, potential partnerships and greater awareness of sustainable practices.
Meanwhile, Ting expressed appreciation to the delegation for the visit.
“We truly appreciate the delegation’s commitment in making this courtesy visit.
“We hope it will pave the way for more comprehensive bilateral cooperation,” he said.
He also expressed hope that MBKS would provide opportunities and prioritise local companies in recycling-related engagements.
