KUCHING: Members of the public have been urged not to purchase, negotiate for, or enter into any arrangement involving the sale, transfer, or takeover of stalls allocated for the Kuching Festival Food Fair 2026, following the discovery of an advertisement offering an allocated stall for sale on social media.

In a statement today, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) stressed that any such transactions are unauthorised, invalid, and will not be recognised under any circumstances.

The council said it had become aware of a social media advertisement offering for sale a stall allocated under the annual food fair and viewed the matter seriously.

“Successful applicants are strictly prohibited from subletting, renting out, transferring, selling, assigning, or sharing their allocated stalls with any third party,” it said.

MBKS added that the allocation of stalls is carried out through an established application and selection process to ensure fairness and equal opportunities for all applicants.

“Any attempt to sell, transfer, or otherwise profit from an allocated stall is a direct violation of the conditions agreed upon by the successful applicant,” the statement added.

MBKS warned that applicants found breaching the terms and conditions may have their stall allocations immediately revoked, forfeit their deposits, and be blacklisted from future applications, including participation in future editions of the Kuching Festival Food Fair.

“Successful stall operators are required to conduct business every night throughout the festival period.

“Failure to operate for a cumulative period of three nights may result in enforcement action, including the forfeiture of the deposit for the respective stall category,” MBKS added.

MBKS urged both applicants and members of the public to respect all decisions made by the council and to comply fully with the procedures and conditions governing participation in the festival.

“These requirements are enforced to maintain transparency, accountability, fairness, and equal opportunities for all participants,” it stated.

MBKS added that it will continue to monitor the situation closely and reserves the right to take appropriate action against any individual found to be involved in activities that contravene the terms and conditions of the stall allocation.
