KUCHING: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry is awaiting reports from the police before taking action over two suspected child abuse cases at childcare centres in Pahang.
Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the ministry’s child protection officers had been contacted and are working with the police on the cases.
“We have to wait for the police reports before we can act, but our child protection officers are already cooperating with the police and preparing the necessary reports required if the cases are brought to court,” she said after the state-level World Population Day 2026 celebration at i-CATS University College’s Stampin campus here on Monday (Sept 7).
According to an earlier report, two female childcare centre employees, aged 31 and 26, were remanded for six days until Sept 12 to assist investigations into separate cases in Kuantan and Temerloh.
The Kuantan case involved a two-year-and-eight-month-old boy who was allegedly scolded, pulled by the hair and shaken by a woman at a childcare centre in Bukit Setongkol.
In Temerloh, a two-year-old girl was allegedly mistreated by a caregiver, prompting her 29-year-old mother to lodge a police report on Saturday.
